for its second kiss, stolen kisses reached out to bnjmn, one of 2011s most promising artists. with nimble synth melodies that leap over burbling sub-bass with the grace and poise of ballet dancers, >nightvision< quickly distinguishes itself as more accessible but equally detailed as the tracks on the uk producers breakthrough album, >plastic world<. it is paired with a remix by fellow uk producer andy stott, a core member of the modern love family. fresh off his revelatory >passed me by< 2x12, stott drags >nightvision< into his lair to refashion it as a gritty, slo-mo beatdown. his sonic gremlins gnaw new textures into familiar progressions and set off sub-bass clusterbombs, daring djs to unleash the remix on a sizable sound system.

above machine is a new label from production duo the project club.field of dreams (reprise mix) incorporates their trademark dreamy guitars coupled with a gorgeous synth hook courtesy of the dave smith prophet. this mix is best served horizontal.
the lexx remix stays close to the original mix but moves gently into the world of disco by adding a smooth bassline by reto gaffuri, along with a tight drum track that together creates a beautiful beach bar groove.
d-pulse serve up a top-notch remix production using all the very best elements from the original mix whilst adding their own unique quality and musicianship to the proceedings.
beginnings started off life as a remix, but ended up as a project club beach epic. the track is irresistibly melancholy and a worthy inclusion on this stunning debut 12 inch.

after a handful of smashing remixes and compilation features on nang records, lusty zanzibar returns to the fold with a cracking solo effort named the >the feeling ep.< title track is a spaced out exercise in immersive square-wave programming, reminiscent of the pre-internet computer gaming age when colours were 8-bit and vivid, and soundtracks were hyper-colour opuses. the complex synth work is underpinned by a driving beat with ethereal vocal wisps and crystalline pads. nice. the first of three remixes for >the feeling< comes from ilya santana, with his >celestial version<, and celestial it is indeed! a picturesque scene is set, the rhythm is wound back and a super laid back vibe allows the vocal line >remember how you are feeling< to sit more purposefully in the mix, alongside the tip-toeing bass line and often euphoric chords. up next comes the max essa dub version, introducing some arp-synth subtleties, replacing the main vocal hook to great effect. to finish we have a mix from fear of theydon who brings a touch of arpeggiated femininity and tasteful woodblock percussion to the table. its a fulfilling yet sultry up-beat journey.

hdr002 takes us straight to 90s house territory with four new edits from nycs marcos cabral. the a-side opens with >sym phon<, an anthemic filtered piano house jam that opens up wide and swallows all in its path. a2 gives us >better think again< with sticatto chords and twinkling keys in a jersey-esque house sound. the b-side hits with >in the sea<, starting off with a giant slow tribal beat and then morphs into a psychedelically swirling synth workout. b2 wraps things up with >get get get< turning our ears to old school chicago house. rolands tr-707 lays the percussion down while the chant of >get in the groove< repeats into infinity

chicagos ricardo miranda makes his debut for the ace stilove4music label, maintaining a fine year in which he has already dropped some serious heat on rush hour sub-label hour house is your rush and his own noble square imprint. title track >102point7< is all jagged synths, throbbing arpeggios, slashing claps and a rolling acid groove, marking it out as one of his most incendiary productions to date. on the flip >rotary cells< is deeper still, a 909-led jacker with undulating layers of sub bass augmented by a wonderfully woozy vocal which extols the virtues of true chicago house. this is followed by >greenline<, a stripped back jam with scuttling hats and the kind of paranoid synth melody that wouldnt sound out of place in jeff mills something in the sky series. this is dark, raw, pulsating dance music - highly recommended.

mav s signature style is detected straight from the intro, crazy synth sounds floating through the air. a creepy atmosphere is created, the ones who saw the movie >melancholia< should feel where this can lead to. on top of that krone adds his signature basslines and we have a deep neuro drum n bass tune that will appeal to both old skool fokuz sound lovers and the neuro dnb fans. the flip makes us go back to even earlier sounds. reminiscence to the early releases on fokuz from the likes of gen, drum origins, j laze and even pete rann. let s go back!

daniel solar is one half of dikso, the excellent edits imprint responsible for many a disco-rinsed dancefloor burner over the last year. the hannover native is also one of berlins emergent talents, a dj, producer, label owner and a&r intent on bridging the gap between disco and dance music, while coaxing the techno-loving citys tastes a little further off the beaten track.
as a child of the early 80s, daniel was strongly influenced by synth pop and dance music, before rap and hip hop caught his imagination and inspired his first forays into production. once he had finished school, daniel became more and more and intrigued with house and techno, clubs and raves, and his studio style expanded to take in electro, techno, and deep house until we arrive at today and his latest release: too much light ep.

recorded in late 2010 and mixed in a remote studio during the finnish snowstorms of early 2011, donky pitch present >the trick ep<, by helsinki resident and skweee pioneer v.c. six original tracks of synth soaked computer funk, electro inspired slow jams and colourful hip hop heaters. v.c. has been making moves in the skweee scene since the early days (as a solo artist and as 1/4 of supergroup yt). his combination of layered synths, hip hop beats and that type of funk only found in the cold reaches of the nordic region have scored him releases on every skweee label going (flogsta danshall / harmnia / mssy / ddpop / disques mazout) as well as ramp recordings. we felt it only right that he commanded our first true foray into the scandinavian electro funk sound of skweee.

marcel fengler launches his own label – imf (index marcel fengler) with a rich, experimental and varied 3 track ep. through his numerous releases for ostgut ton and mote- evolver, or remixes for artists like skudge or perc, fengler has built his own distinct modern techno sound. introducing the ep , setting the tone and announcing its intentions, >knavish< is a thick, textural and spacious piece of sound design that careers across the audio spectrum with stunning fluidity. like a seductive opening chapter, it draws us in, yet leaves much for our burning curiosity to discover. moving on further off-centre, the churning ten minute adventure of >hidden empire< begins its rumbling ascent in the paranoid depths of fenglers more subversive electronic language. fusing the attitude of punk with the metallic ring of industry, its lively synth play and heavy forward stomp make this a challenging and indeed rewarding find. featured on his new >berghain 05< mix, >sphinx< takes a straighter path into the kind of sensory techno that marcel is well known for presenting on the berghain floor. funky, playfully aggressive, heavily defined and certainly cosmic, a concerto of outer-space tones, static and filtered waves join the racing percussion in tense unison

autoreply offshoot stuga returns with a highly playable 12 inch that is perfect for the outdoor party season. for this release we welcome back ben rourke who has previously recorded for autoreply, his blue ep collaboration with friend pier bucci having sold out instantly and going on to receive critical acclaim. his tracks effortlessly build without the aid of well known formulas always using high end sound design but never forgetting that house and techno music is essentially meant for dancing. >tahiti< is one of those tracks thats perfect for the big room or after-party alike featuring bouncy percussion, an analogue bass-line that will properly drive the sound system and one of the most infectious synth-sequences of the year. in fact the mans developed a whole new genre, desert island techno! >sharpie< explores the deeper realms of dub driven techno with a very liquid approach just so slightly tipping its hat to the 90s detroit vibe and still very much aimed at the floor. enjoy.

lando is known for teaming up with low limit as lazer sword, a future hip-hop from group from the bay area. his solo tracks are freaked out juggernauts of electronic music, primarily experimenting with various mutations of house. dense instrumentation, analog synth and drum machine work, complex melodies, and creeping basslines are pooled from his musical obsessions with 90s rnb, classic house, freestyle, garage, detroit techno, early synthesizer music, timbaland, and… to be honest, everything in between.
>maneuver< is a sure shot banger, a futuristic synth piece with heavy garage leanings and even a hint of robin s classic >show me love<. on the flip we find >run it<, a more introvert electro fused b-boy classic from future times.

gary beck teams up with house legend and personal hero mr. g on their first col- laboration together. their efforts highlight both producers uncanny ability to create something that is instantly recognizable while distinctly individual. >all my people< brings a true and unadulterated house sound with a swaggering vocal sample and straight, crisp and assertive percussion. mark broom returns for his second appearance on bek audio with >stag<. steady, rol- ling techno shows the darker, head-down side of the bek imprint and marks produc- tions. intense percussion builds with the addition of a haunting synth leading to the break. stripped back to the bones the track jumps in with powerful effect.

after his recent excursion remixing groove armada, morton sorenson returns to the fold with a stunning little release for tirk titled >the burn down ep.< for those that dont know, morten is in his early twenties and hails from a small fishing village in rural norway. his dad probably spent many years in new york and the records that he brought back encouraged a love of american house and disco on the impressionable morton. >burn down (original)’ is an exercise in uplifting, stripped back house music. less is more here, the vibe stays rich and never loosens its grip. the rhythms skip on top of the beat and the vocal interludes make for a real vivid experience. the lpz remix on the other hand sits back a bit, the rhythms are solidly swung and the vocal appears more affluently in the mix. it feels smooth and definitely cool. to top the package, were served up some chi-town flavours with <owe that 2 u.< sustained strings and a slo-mo shuffle builds, then peels away to a hollowed out organ breakdown. a hauntingly affected vocal and clever edits ensue then drop back into the beat, articulated now by the clack of a tough stacatto synth. in our eyes, a brilliant end to a fantastic package

* missed flight* sees two of drumcodes most prominent artists, cari lekebusch and joseph capriati, team up to deliver a 2 track vinyl ep of essential modern techno.
while lekebusch is a veteran, joseph capriati is part of the upsurge of new talent who have been grabbing increasingly intense attention over the past few years. the pairing of a prodigious new talent (somewhat new – capriati has developed quite a catalogue for an artist in his early twenties) with someone of lekebuschs standing is always an enticing prospect so >missed flight< looks set to turn heads from its billing alone. >missed flight< the track comes on like the perfect theme to the arrival of autumn. the tones are moody and the groove is linear, penetrating and eerily appointed. a kubrick-esque breakdown of pulses and space is the only thing that breaks the momentum and adds a deliciously creepy characteristic to proceedings. track two, >napoli 4am<, balances out its darker tinged predecessor with a shuffling 909 funk and playful groove combination that pairs up with subtly delayed hits deep fm synth work brilliantly.

the mysterious robotalco serves up four deep house cuts for nycs on the prowl. robos road kicks things off with the right amount of hissing strings and slow drifting vibes that win its a1 spot. next up we have it gets to me, which strips things back a bit with pulsing synths, sparse congas, and perfectly placed vocal snippets. on the b-side we get moon robot, it keeps things rolling with its stompy feel and more of whats becoming robotalcos signiture swirling synth pad sound. rounding up the release for b2 is zuk zuk, with its quirky low slung groove that develops into a latin percussive gem...its really a superb way to round off robotalcos otp debut. well done.

daniel dexter is the latest new talent to emerge as part of the poker flat crew. after some success with his strong, futuristic productions on exploited records, the berlin based producer has found a new home in steve bugs modern house magnate. the moody, storming >no house for old men< is a superb example of daniels talents. synth-heavy, dramatic and restrained, this slow burning houser lifts and climbs into spacey, ecstatic moments as its detroit influenced keys and carl craig-esque peaks bring it home. the groovy >who knows motorcity< works a simple yet addictive theme in a powerful pop-house moment, especially designed for summertime evening action. clean, bright percussion and rubbery synths flavour this delightful second course! the deeper, hypnotic tones of >the other day< have an almost soundtrack quality as subtle key changes and detailed sound design take this track into more subterranean realms. melancholic yet positive in its resolution, this is future house music in its prime!

gabe catanzaro is a kind of -king of italo disco made in usa-. after the first appearance on international deejay gigolo in 2000, he has reached the swiss labels mental groove and viking music with unforgetable gems like memories and ex-girlfriend . later he has released the amazing i can still remember on john selway s label memory boy, and also a full lenght on laboraudio called (la febbre dell italo disco) (italo disco s fever, translated from italian language). finally, after some years of break and a couple of remixes for dj gio mc-505, he come back with a ep full of italo disco and synth pop references. essential for who love the sound of the 80s.

its been two years since pawas gupta contributed an enchanting remix on sirions first vinyl release. constant communication and cooperation lead to this all in all accomplished project called >huis huis ep<. pawas productions start off smooth and impress with delightful elements and perpetual dynamic. the development of each track is rarely predictable. tempting the act of prolonged anticipation is a delicate one and leads further and further into remote realms. carried into the sec repetitive parts by finely tuned synth-boosts makes us realize the force briefly before being caught up in the hypnotic sounds again. propelling deep house with a pinch of funk and a touch of detroit - the classic yet brilliant pawas style! moon harbours chris lattner needs no long introductions. releases on nrk, einmaleins, fear of flying and luna records speak for themselves, are proof of a successful and active time. the dry yet truly ideal base frame for subtle but succinct modules for this remix is its effective substance. the static sub bass, fulminate and with an enormous thrust, is reminiscent of the miami bass age - virtuous modulations, the very complexion of mr lattner. he remains true to himself, we like!

>rdjcs5<, a new 4-track 12-inch ep by solvent, is the result. this is suction022. each and every sound on this record came from rdj’s old cs5, painstakingly programmed and multi-tracked by solvent over the course of several months. the limited capabilities and sound palette of this humble little synth provided quite a challenge, but ultimately the results are not merely an exercise in technical synthnerdery, rdjcs5 speaks more of solvents musical kinship to thee analord. opening track >curtains< bears similarity to early rephlex signing bochum welt, while >radiator<, >mould<, and >tassels< each contain hallmarks of the classic afx sound. at the same time, each track also sounds distinctly and unmistakably solvent. the 12 inch vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies, in brown chipboard sleeve with sticker, and also contains an additional noise/drone piece at the end of side b. entitled >sandpaper<, this cut will be individually hand-etched by solvent, for a 1-of-a-kind cut/click/loop experience.

guy gerbers supplement facts imprint continues to drop the bombs, this time courtesy of brooklyn-based duo no regular play, with their searing package. >fall up to the sky< featuring the molten vocals of maya hatch and a blinding remix from life and death. the ep came about after label head guy gerber heard a recording of an nrp live set at an after party and was struck by one particular synth line, so much so that he contacted the pair shortly after to discuss a release. a prevailing musical connection on both sides made supplement facts the natural destination for.

troy pierce, marc houle & magda team up to present their first ever trio release on items & things, >down & out vol 1< - which takes its name from their newly created party series - events that are based around the dark & intimate, off the radar, and under the ground. troy pierce starts things off with >majikal<, introducing the eps dark magic with a climbing bassline, scattering, almost anxious percussion and buoyant sound effects panned throughout. ominous atmospheres and weighted textures produce a cinematic accompaniment to surveyors of uncharted terrain. building a continual tension-and-release cycle, the track is a lucid whirlwind of sonic imagery and trickery, balancing visceral sounds with the otherworldly. magda teams up with suade, a producer & friend from newcastle that we are sure to see more of, together they bring forth a true builder, a creeper, the type of track that reveals itself more with each layering sequence. a masterclass in dynamics, >fixation< is a dark groove thats haunted by a chilling vocal, wavering synth vibrato, unexpected melodies, and juxtaposes of funk. angular drums hit alongside swells of percussive echoes but, the focus of the track revolves around the bassline’s movement. as catchy as it is esoteric. marc houles >slowpe< ends the ep with a slightly slower pace, but in a disconcerting way: taking it down a few notches this one that transports the listener to the strangest dimension yet. filtered melodies start the tracks ascent, sounding like a trumpet thats been bent out of shape and played from the void. with dark textures compactly knit into a condensed wall of sound, a low-slung bassline trades places with eerie chords and sparse percussion

sherard ingram returns to trust with his first release of 2011: misinformation campaign. this is his third ep for the label after bio electronic and social engineering. on this record sherard ingram contrasts his lightning-fast electro-inspired rhythms with lush synth melodies and glistening arpeggios. on occasion more menacing and dystopian moods gain the upper hand, such as on the b-sides >whos watching the watchers< and >defect<. this record is impossible to pigeonhole, refining a style that is unmistakably stingrays own and which has over the past years earned him the respect of the electro, techno, dubstep, electronica, and minimal dnb camps alike.

what do you call musicians like com truise? he seems easy enough to pin down—throw out some words like nostalgia, synth-wave, eighties, and electro-funk and you will scrape by—but to be truly insightful about his music is tough, because art that is so blatantly referencing certain things in a certain way while also making them weird and new and unique is confusing. how do you classify something that is so obviously both vintage and current but is too fun to call postmodern? awesome is an option. especially when it sounds like you are driving the knight rider car through thick clouds of nitrous oxide, like >fairlight<, the title track from truises new single, which previously appeared on an iso50 comp called dry waves and also has this jarring, falling-all-over-itself middle section that prevents you from trancing out too hard. >beta eyes<, the track that follows, is even more restless, with a drum pattern that is fidgety and clustered, kicks and snares fighting each other like two drum and bass heads arguing over an atari remote. >polyhurt<, a narcotic, almost ballad-like closer that inevitably leaves you thinking, >now, how the hell am i going to describe that to someone?< the vinyl exclusive cut >colorvision< could be truises most dancefloor friendly track yet.

b-tracks, aka soren jahan & john barera release their debut ep on their new imprint. the two musicians and record collectors worked together to make >specialize<, a rolling house cut made for the dancefoor & road tested at their gigs. with >day to night<, they go deep with a warm and melodic tune that still makes you get up. their rough and ready production style continues to shine in house workout >jump on it<.
on the flip, >progress< is a relentless techno cut with a raw analog sound and a mind of its own. finishing off the record is >your love<, a climactic and synth driven track in the spirit of early electronic dance music.

so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy … this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.

the intermezzo ep kicks off with we are here, which could be easily described as get out part 2. a spoken word vocal over kerris trademark beats and instrumentation, musing on the subject of a busy schedule and calways available technology. so it begins again takes things down a much more tribal road, perfect for a big room, and the dc10 mix is a nod towards the direction kerri had in mind and the dancefloors he created this track for. the dark mix takes this idea even further with a more progressive feel as the track plays out. red lights explores a more live drum feel with a cut-up breakbeat playing a 4/4 rhythm, and a throbbing bassline and synth pattern. this one is a little deeper but still packs plenty of punch!
